Probiotics Strengthen the Immune SystemPosted: 11/14/2009
As we all know children get sick very often! Their little immune systems have not reached the strength of an adults and whenever they seem to get sick it's only a matter of a couple weeks after they've finished their prescription that they're sick again. Why is this? A majority of our immune system resides within our digestive tract. We have billions of good bacteria and flora living within our digestive tracts and when antibiotics are taken these wipe out a big portion of our good bacteria and flora. Look at the word, Antibiotics. Anti means " against " or " opposed to." So this would have to mean that antibiotics are opposed to our good bacteria. If the medicine we take is against our good bacteria that helps maintain our immune systems then obviously our immunity gets weakened and we tend to either not get better or we get beter then sick again. This is exactly what happens to kids. They get an ear infection, go on penicillin, and then two weeks later they're right back in the doctor's office getting another prescription. Probiotics are billions of good bacteria that are made for oral consumption and should be taken right after our children finish their usual ten day program of antibiotics. This way we ensure to replace the good bacteria and flora that was destroyed and allow the immune system to bounce back. When you give your kids probiotics your saving another trip back to the doctors to be treated a second time for ear aches or strept throat or other infections treated by medicine. Actually, probiotics aid in better digestive health. Sometimes children and adults have bouts of indegestion or have hard times digesting processed foods. Giving your body, mainly the digestibe tract, a dose of probiotics will help in the breakdown of foods your stomach disagrees with and will prevent feeling nauseas, having the runs, or bad gas. I always recommended to clients to take probiotics on a regular basis in order to keep the immune system and your digestive tract working properly. Adults and children should take them for over all health. But for the sake of this article if you want to prevent your child from illness a few weeks after the first round then go to your local health store and buy some probiotics. Be sure to refridgerate them after you open them. If your child is too small for capsules then get it in liquid form. Either way you can't go wrong and your children will thank you for it! Until next time be safe and stay healthy! Share this information on Facebook
