Enjoy the Magic the Holidays Bring

Posted: 11/17/2009
Thanksgiving and Christmas are my two favorite holidays of all time. When I was a kid I use to love going to my grandmother's house for turkey day where all our family would be gathered around the house laughing, watching football, and just enjoying each others company. I remember watching " Babes in Toyland " sitting in front of the fire place in total joy just soaking in all the family love filtering throughout the house. The smell of the fire place, the wonderful food grandma and grandpa were cooking, the first light snow fall outside and the excitement of knowing Santa Claus was just a few weeks away from dropping down my chimney with his sack full of toys.

Those were the days! Now that I'm an adult I still love thinking back to those days as a kid. They still bring the child out in me every year. Lucky for me I have a four year old I can live through each and every holiday. But one important thought that's been on my mind, and not only for myself, but for everybody else who loves the holidays as much as me, is to put aside your differences if you're experiencing any conflict in your life. In the past I use to be one to hold on to so much anger over the most ridiculous things! Come to find out it is definitely not worth it.

This magical time of season is the time to forgive and forget, even if it wasn't your fault. It doesn't matter! Even if you know that other person will never change, just accept that. Try to find the good qualities in that person or family member or friend. Life is too short to hold onto so much stress. Thanksgiving and Christmas is not the time to be mentally drained. Love, Happiness, and Joy should be the only feelings flowing through your heart.

If you're a parent, being in a healthy state of mind and experiencing the magic your children are experiencing should be the most important emotions you're focusing on. And if you don't have kids or you are single, it doesn't matter. This time of year should be magical for everybody regardless of marital status, having kids or not, or your age. When feeling any anger, resentment, frustration, or tenson, take a step back, take a deep breath and remember a magical moment you had during these holidays when you were little. Take a walk around the neighborhood and look at Christmas lights or watch an old holiday movie that brings back that excitement. Trust me, if you forgive and let go, your holidays this year and for years to come will be filled with that twinkle of joy you had when you were child. And before you know it, all those stressful emotions will be forgotten and you will now have another reason to give thanks this year! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
